Roadworks

People travelling into Atherton via Bolton Road are reminded that the bridge over the railway line on Bolton Road is closed from Monday 12th September until early December. There will be temporary traffic lights at the bridge from then until late February. The official diversion is through Daisy Hill and Westhoughton. Please note that this route is congested under normal circumstances without the extra 10,000 cars per day caused by the diversion. An alternative route from the M61 is as follows:

Exit M61 at Junction 4 for Atherton, Leigh, Farnworth and Walkden. Follow for A6 to Walkden into Little Hulton. At first set of traffic lights, turn right towards Tyldesley A5082. Follow this road for approx 1 mile until the mini-roundabout junction with A577. Turn right at mini-roundabout onto Sale Lane towards Tyldesley, Atherton and Wigan. Continue through Tyldesley town centre into Atherton. After traffic lights at junction with Hamilton Street and Tyldesley Old Road, take first right onto High Street. Alder Street is the next right.

Public Transport

By Bus:

The 582 service from Bolton or Leigh stops on Bolton Road near the Asda store. Turn into High Street at the Concert Inn pub, and Alder Street is the second left. ***Please note: Free shuttle buse will connect to the 582 at Four Lane Ends and Atherton town centre during the roadworks on Bolton Road. By Train:

The nearest railway station is Atherton, approximately half a mile away. If coming by train; on exiting the station, carry straight on until the main road. Cross it and turn right. Follow Bolton Road until Atherton Town Hall. Turn left at the Concert Inn pub. Alder Street is the second road along on the left.
